From field
to flux.
Pick a point or draw a region. See the biomass residue that is there, what it costs to move, what a plant makes of it, and the fossil carbon it displaces.
The calculation platform for biomass carbon abatement
BiomassFlux joins every state’s biomass residue assessment into one national supply table, apportions it to the region you draw, and runs the same supply-chain model CSIRO built for NSW BioSMART — transport fuel, cost and CO₂e, then power, heat, biochar or liquid fuels — with the uncertainty the original data carries and the abatement the original tool never reported.

Supply, anywhere
Click a point with a radius or draw a polygon. Residues from crops, forestry, horticulture, livestock and organic waste are area-apportioned to your region, with ABBA's min and max kept.
Transport
Diesel litres, dollars and CO₂e per haul from wet tonnes, payload and fuel rate; road distances when a router is set, straight-line fallback otherwise.
Plants
Biomass power sized from your supply, coal co-firing, hybrid solar-biomass, industrial heat, biochar and renewable diesel or methanol, each with the original bmfb constants.
Abatement
Fossil CO₂ displaced and carbon stored, net of the transport footprint. Prices and counterfactuals are next, so every scenario ends in $ per tonne CO₂e.
Four steps, one auditable chain.
The maths follows NSW BioSMART’s open bmfb package line for line, so every number can be checked against the original.
Draw
A point and radius, or any polygon. The engine intersects it with the national feedstock table in PostGIS and apportions tonnes by area.
Move
Set a haul distance or place a plant. Fuel = wet t × (L/100 km ÷ payload ÷ 100) × km; CO₂e at 87.61 kg per GJ of diesel (NGA 2023).
Convert
Choose the end use. Pellets lose 22 % or 30 %; a 100 % biomass plant is sized from your energy; co-firing solves the coal it displaces.
Account
Read the abatement: fossil CO₂ avoided plus stored carbon, minus the transport footprint, alongside the ABBA min–max range.
